It’s only been a year since Andrew Tkaczyk of The Ghost Inside suffered the loss of his right leg but recovery looks to be going well as his playing seems to be picking right back up!
Started off playing a little “Denial” influenced groove by Sevendust @morgan7d but then it just turned into nonsensical madness! Tons of slop in here but oh well. Trying to strengthen that right hip, and I’ve got a long way to go. I’ve been so excited to try this little Splash/Spiral stacker! Leave it to me to bend it the first time I ever play it. Thank you so much @zildjiancompany for the support and of course thanks to all my people @sjcdrums @vicfirth @remopercussion @64audio
I first met Andrew Tkaczyk back in 2012 when I was on the road with VersaEmerge doing Merch. We were somewhere in the middle of the Las Vegas Dessert at a skatepark unpacking our van for a big festival and I remember a big white van pulling up and all these bearded and tattooed dudes piling out. My friend Devin and current bassist of VE at the time pointed out ” dude, that’s The Ghost Inside. Let’s go say what up! “. This was probably my second time on the road and I was still experiencing serious Fanboy moments every time I met another one of my favorite artists but sure enough, the TGI boys were inviting and humble.
We hung out with Andrew most of the time and we talked a lot about drums, touring and of course the experience of getting to his then current position. A lot of people may not know this but Andrew was the drummer and founding member of Post-hardcore Sensation ” For the Fallen Dreams “. At the time, this was one of my favorite groups and my obsession with his playing was more real than no other. He was, of course, extremely humbled and willing to give me an in-depth breakdown of the band history and the specific roles he played with the music. In short, this guy is much more than a great person, he is also a phenomenal musician all around.
Nobody wants to go through the pain and suffering that someone like Andrew has gone through but the mentality and attitude he has portrayed are a true testament to his integrity as a human being. We can all take a page from Andrew’s book and I advise that you do!
