Daily Fill 81: Do you have good Habits?

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Daily Fill with our Owner and founder Richard Ducat! Every Tuesday Richard gives us a dose of motivation, guidance, life hacks, marketing tips, and more!

On today’s episode, we focus specifically on habits and what it takes to build a good set of strong progressive habits. This applies to playing and practicing drums, organizing your schedule, your business, your drum teaching schedule and more.

I think I harp on this more than anything else but I am dead serious when I say you need to keep a daily journal that keeps track of at least your top 4 important tasks each day. Taking this regulated time every night prior to bed has been a staple in my previous 140 days of consistent daily progress. It also helps me keep a clear and concise ledger of what I am doing with my time which allows me to optimize and evaluate where I am the most successful.

A few specific entrepreneurial and motivational habits that you Drummers and Go-getters can apply today:

Start with a morning Regimen:

I can’t stress this one enough and it all starts with that first action being a 12oz glass of water which is one of the key habits of my morning success. I cram down loads of coffee each day but nothing regenerates and hydrates me like that first dousing of aqua. I suggest picking up to 9 specific actions that give you a productive and optimized morning allowing you to perform at your best all day.

Pro tips: Leave out basic menial things like “walk the dog” or “feed pets”. Instead, focus on healthy and thoughtful actions like stretching, yoga, drinking a healthy breakfast shake and drinking water!

Track your tasks intensively:

Just like I write up my morning regimen, I also write up my most important daily needs and delegate accordingly. This can be tough for the ones who want to cram as much as possible into each block but trust me… that doesn’t work. I suggest you focus on tangible objectives that won’t leave you feeling worn out or worse unfinished.

Pro tips: Take things slow and don’t overwork yourself with multiple hour long blocks. I typically do 45-60 minutes at a time with a forced break of 15-20 minutes 3-4 times a day.

Consistently review yourself:

This is probably the most important piece to my puzzle and an essential for growth. I do it weekly and sometimes even daily with an extremely aggressive approach. This allows me to continually search for the loose ends in my process allowing to me to tap my out productivity levels when it comes to my workload. I am always searching for a faster and more optimized way to complete important tasks and this is the force behind it.

Pro tips: Keep a daily ledger of your completed and incomplete tasks so that you can review yourself. Keep track of important details that may have allowed or disallowed you to complete your daily tasks.

These are just a few of the things I am doing every day to stay on top of my productivity and focus patterns and I promise they will help you. I suggest taking it slow and not pressuring yourself to obtain any orders to tall. Trust me… It took me at least 90 days to lock my morning regimen in and sometimes I still drag it out. No one is perfect…

Except for Gary Vee and John Lee Dumas lol…
