Everett Vic Firth 1930-2015 – Drummers I Like

Drummers I Like and Drummers everywhere will be mourning the loss of the great Everett “Vic” Firth.vic firth, everett vic firth, vic firth logo

The drumstick mogul and more importantly legendary percussionist. Created one of the most recognizable brands in the drum gear market. Using his name and making sure that it was the mark of quality and craftsmanship. What’s amazing to me is that the company wasn’t even really born out of an idea to help bring a better product to drummers out there, but to personally play the best quality product. Like they say if you want something done right sometimes you just have to do it yourself. But as his peers saw the quality and innovation that he was putting into his sticks everybody wanted a pair.

Vic Firth was an inspiration to all of us. He was a visionary, a mentor, a leader, and a friend. He always said he surrounded himself with the best people, but the truth is he brought out the best in all of us. His boundless passion for music and musicians drove every decision he made. Vic’s spirit and legacy will continue to live at the core of the Vic Firth Company. He will be missed beyond words.”

Through his brand, “Vic Firth drumsticks” he was able to touch so many drummers lives and pave the way for drummers worldwide. That  brand was the first  stick that I was excited to play, and even though the years I’ve strayed from their sticks. I have always maintained a huge amount of respect for the man and the company he created. But one product I’ve always loved are their isolation headphones. I still use them to this day and they provide a great sound for both when I’m using my e-kit or when in the studio for a session. His company has so many artists on their roster that I’m sure that we’ll be seeing many beautiful tribute posts from many different artists on all of our social media streams. There is also a great page on their website that has lots of artists sharing memorable stories about Vic. It’s great reading so go check it out. He was able to touch so many drummers lives and we owe him a lot. There is a nice landing page on their page’s website paying tribute to him with a short statement.

We will keep doing our thing this week,  but it will be with a heavy heart. Many thanks to Vic for all the support for our community and everything you’ve done for drumming. He will be missed greatly! Drummers! Let us know how Vic Firth touched your life. Leave us a comment below and tell us your stories!
